N91 image quality

victorP from 3G forums claimes that there is no difference between the three image quality settings on the N91.

I disagree, image quality does not differ vastly but there is a definite difference. The main advantage, contrary to victorP’s statement, is that the reduced quality settings use less memory.

To change image quality on your N91 follow these steps:

Camera > Options > Settings > Image > Image quality

Keep talking with N91

philippe146 has asked the Howard forums community if one can close the slider on an N91 without disconnecting a call which is in progress. Much to the delight of fellow community members, the answer's yes. Mayhs explains that this can be achieved by holding the top left button (the one above the green answer button) whilst closing the slider.

This is a fantastic tip, so click here to give Mayhs a pat on the back.

N91 hardware issue

dragonn91 is having a few problems with the N91's hardware. Every time the music library is refreshed, dragonn91's N91 doesn’t recognise the hard drive.

My first piece of advice would be to format the hard drive. However, dragonn91 has tried this already. Looking at Nokia’s online advice, the next step is to visit a service centre.

Click here to check out this thread in GSM Forum. Hit this link for the official Nokia information.

N91 music transfer

DisasterX is having problems refreshing the music library on an N91 after uploading some fresh tracks. My advice is to try a different transfer method. My preference is actually the mass storage mode option.

N91 - mirror mirror on the wall...

We all know video calling can be a one-sided experience on the N91 due to the device having only one camera. Not to worry, Osram suggests standing in front of a mirror with your N91, thus enjoying the full video calling experience!

Okay, it’s far from perfect but it's worth a go. If you’re proficient in Spanish then click here to join this entertaining chat in Todo Symbian. See the translation here.

N91 - do we need 8GB?

The chaps in Spanish community Todo Symbian are having a chat about their potential future purchases. Kruger has suggested the N91 8GB. However, henrycop claims 1GB is more than enough for his music collection and prefers the N73 for its 3.2 Megapixel camera.

I think henrycop is making the right choice. If your life is more about snaps than tunes then buy a device like the N73 with an amazing camera but the N91 8GB is THE device for music fanatics.

N91-Zoom zoom zoom

Check out this YouTube video. It was shot with an N91and looks pretty good we think.

ProyectHunter knows how to make the most of the N91's 20x stepless zoom.

Dream Nseries

Axel_456 from Spanish community Todo Symbian is dreaming of a hybrid Nokia device. It has the N73's camera, the N93's video and the hard disk and music player capacity of the N91.

Some people are just never satisfied! I wonder how far the N95 is from making Axel_456’s dream a reality? What are your features of choice from the Nseries range?

Don't abuse your N91

Trus has a dead N91 and is asking the GSM-Forum community if they can upload a file which will downgrade the firmware on his N91.

My advice, don’t attempt anything like this yourself. If your N91 is dead then take it to a Nokia service centre.

Click here for a previous post on this issue. Hit this link to help out trus.

N91 ignored

Superpoincare from Howard forums is absolutely flabbergasted that an article covering competitors to the iPod failed to mention the N91.

I too find this slightly bemusing... The article doesn’t make any mention of convergent devices. Surely overlooking not just the N91, but all music dedicated smartphones, is a major faux pas?

Nseries sex appeal

James_bond_guj can’t choose between the N73, N80 and of course the N91. The requirements are: a decent camera, WiFi and a sexy music player.

Incredibly no one has suggested the N91 yet. The mood currently favours the N80.

Feel free to disagree, but we reckon the music player on the N91 is the Beyonce Knowles of the Smartphone world. No other music player oozes sex appeal like the N91. Surely it's the perfect device for anyone who aspires to the nickname james_bond_guj?

Now hit this link, get over to Mobile9 and let james_bond_guj know what time it is!

N91 - Offline mode

Basakli from Inside-Handy wants to know if the N91 is capable of playing music without operating as a phone.

N91 boy is correct in advising basakli to use the Offline profile. In offline mode you can still use the music player and browse the web but you can't receive/make calls or SMSs. If you want to use this function press:

On/Off > Offline > OK

N91- is 4GB enough?

JaReD from Spanish community Todo Symbian reckons that the current N91 with 4GB of memory is still extremely alluring, even though the black 8 gig version is on the way.

It will be interesting to see how many people will upgrade to the 8GB N91. I'm quite tempted. After all, the N91 looks pretty damn sexy in black!

N91 or N80: which would you choose?

Here’s one for our Italian audience... Pie2078 is going to buy an N80 or an N91. Greeneyes and enneottanta both offer advice. They point out that both devices have firmware quirks which need to be resolved before one can completely fall in love with them.

I agree. To make sure you have the latest firmware version installed on your device, click here. Upgrade if you need to and then, like me, you will be able to enjoy a wonderful, loving relationship with your N91!

Recording with N91

Adam5 from 3G wants to know if it's possible to record from the N91's radio.

The short answer is no. However, in these moden times, most radio stations produce podcasts. So why not get some podcatching software and subscribe to your favourite show?

For a previous post about downloading podcasts with your N91 hit this link. Click here to join the discussion on 3G forums.

N91: music to your ears

Over in Mobile Review, music devices are getting a thorough examination. tenglw86 wants opinions on the N91 and W950i. Sound quality seems to be the main bone of contention, with members backing both devices.

With DRC (Dynamic Range Compression) and an 8-band equalizer, the N91 takes audio very seriously. My advice to tenglw86, test audio quality for yourself and make up your own mind.

Click here to get involved. This link will take you to one of our previous posts on N91 audio.

N91 headset compatability

Fbi114 has asked the Howard forums community if one can listen to the N91's radio using a headset other than the HS-28 set that comes as standard.

Helpful community member lom2k6 didn’t waste any time in confirming that yes, you can plug in any compatible headset and still listen to the radio.

N91 pros & cons

N91 still in good shape

AVForums' members are discussing the new Nseries devices which are soon to be released by Nokia. ezabuk loves the current N91 and can't wait to upgrade to the N91 8GB.

ezabuk recounts dropping the N91 a couple of times with no effect. Yet more evidence of how robust the N91 is.

N91 overlooked?

If you didn’t already know, the Mobile Choice consumer awards snubbed the N91, awarding the ‘Best Music Phone’ prize to the SE W810i.

The guys at Mobile-Review are debating whether or not the N91 is the true winner of this category. There are definitely some miffed N91 fans!

N91 fonts

jumi27 has asked the 3G guys if it is possible to change the colour and font of an SMS sent by an N91.

We're afraid not... The nearest you can get to changing the SMS font colour is changing the theme on your N91; however, your theme settings will not change the SMSs you send.

Click here to help jumi27 out.

N91 voice dialling

tkbah from German community ModernBoard is having a few problems with voice dialling, and wants to know if one can change the language used by the voice dial function.

You can remove the Synthesiser which plays recognised voice tags in the selected device language. Just follow these steps:

Menu > Tools > Voice cm > Option > Settings > Synthesiser > Change > Off

It is also possible that resetting voice recognition learning will help. This is certainly the case if you are not the original user of the N91. To do this, follow these steps:

Menu > Tools > Voice cm > Option > Settings > Reset Voice adapts > Off

N91 vs W900i

Some serious opinions are being exchanged in Howard forums. The N91 and the W900i are the devices currently in the ring.

MNguyen281 slams the N91's screen, claiming its resolution is so abysmal that the WiFi and browser are rendered useless (a tad harsh maybe?!). N91 fans are holding their own though, arguing that the N91 is stylish and of course the 3.5mm jack is very popular.

N91 font size

Questher's N91 freezes and he wants to know how to increase the default font size. Questher has posted to GSM Arena asking for advice. If you want to know the answers to Questher's questions then read on:

First step, upgrade your firmware (click here for previous post), this will solve the freezing issue. Moving onto fonts... Unfortunately, the N91 doesn’t have a choice of fonts. Moreover, software which magnifies the screen is currently not available for the N91.

N91 8GB user opinion

You’ve heard the hype, now read some real reviews from people who have actually touched the 8GB N91. Jim Joloq has posted a comment to Paul Miller's Engadget blog saying that the new N91 feels really sturdy. This, of course, will come as no surprise to current N91 users. We all know the N91 original is one tough cookie.

Decisions, Decisions

An interesting conversation is taking place on GSM Arena. Atul_kaji is trying to choose between the N73 and the N91 and has asked for advice. Redhair25 is an N73 fan and argues its case well, but nobody has yet joined in to fight the N91's corner.

We think that the N73 is a great camera phone but if music is your thang then the N91 wins every time!

N91 on the Tube

Have a look at this N91 video. We found it on YouTube compliments of TR465.

N91 rocks your world

Xkube from Mobile Review is in love with the N91 and thinks its U.I is really fast compared to the ROKR's. Take note saliquincer (see ‘N91 User Interface’ post)!

All of this from someone who once never wanted to touch a mobile device with a hard drive! Just goes to show... Don’t knock it till you…

N91 User Interface

Amzz_259 has asked the Mobile-Review community to compare the W850i and the N91.

Things have turned a bit ugly and chlettn and saliquincer just can’t agree on who should be the victor. Of course, the N91’s jack gets a shout but the camera gets slammed! However, what really annoyed me though was the criticism of the N91’s user interface. Personally, I like the U.I on the N91. if it's not ideal for you then try installing an app to further simplify the navigation.

N91 secret files

If you want to keep your N91 files private, give Crypto software a try. It enables you to password protect selected files.

So, no chance of your partner setting eyes on that naughty pic your ex sent you,  the one you just can’t seem to be able to delete! Interestingly, the guys in 3G love this app. Anything to hide? I wonder!

N91- Keypad lock

Keypad locking is one of the current topics over in Howard forums. The guys are discussing different apps and shortcuts which make keypad locking more straightforward.

LordDante points out that, with the N91, all those problems are a distant memory. The keylock slider at the top of the device means a quick slide is all you need to make your N91 pocket-safe, no need to worry about apps or shortcuts.

N91 users, please feel free to click here and gloat!

N91 - tunes when you need 'em

Check out Stuart’s blog, this guy really knows how to make the most of his smartphone. He is also really chuffed that his son can receive email on his N91 when he is away at camp.

I’m sure his son is much more impressed with the fact that his N91 enables him to take his whole music collection with him, and it all fits in his pocket.

New N91 owner

Homez is trying to master the N91 and is getting some great advice from the likes of mimaketi and danuk81. The guys are giving Homez tips on how to transfer music to the device using PC Suite.

Remember... You can transfer music files straight to your N91 using the mass storage mode, some N91 users prefer this more simple option.

N91 - looks and brains!

The guys in Howard forums are discussing the benefits of the new Range3 collection. JonnyBruha admits the new black models are nice, but is of the opinion that Nseries fans are more concerned with spec than appearance.

I personally think that having a device which looks the business and has a hard drive (8 GB!) big enough to store your entire music collection is obviously the perfect solution.

Nokia and Wibree

Nokia has launched a new digital radio technology called Wibree. The intention is for Wibree to work in conjunction with Bluetooth. Wibree's big plus is that it has very low power consumption.

This addition to the wireless mix will improve battery life on future devices, which is great news - considering that this has been one of the main N91 gripes.

If you want to learn more about Wibree, click here for Kevin Tofel's blog or here for a slightly more informative insight from El Reg's Bill Ray.

N91-WiFi

Karsten, from German community ModernBoard, has been having problems getting an N91 to access the web via a WLAN network. Roadrunner offers some top advice.

Make sure you’re entering the correct WEP key (no brainer!). If that's not the issue then turn off the router's encryption, so there's no need to enter a WEP key. Finally, update firmware in case the problem lies within the device itself.

Music Recommenders with N91

Ok, you’ve got your N91. Now you'll need some of the freshest tunes from around the globe on that HUGE internal memory. How? With the new Nokia Music Recommenders service, of course!

With Music Recommenders you will get a monthly delivery of hand-picked 30 second track samples that are tailored specifically to your musical tastes. If you like what you hear then treat yourself! Independent music fanatics will be the 'recommenders' and the great David Bowie is at the helm, so it will definitely be worth checking out.

N91 firmware upgrade

Neildunne from 3G forums has been left with a dead N91 after attempting a firmware upgrade.

My advice is to take a trip to a Nokia Service Centre. If you are unable to turn on your N91 post-upgrade then this is the only option.

It is possible that Neildunne disconnected his N91 while the upgrade was in progress. This is potentially lethal (for your N91). Always fully charge your N91 prior to an upgrade and leave it on charge throughout to ensure that there is no chance of the device switching off.

Click here to join the discussion. Follow this link for official Nokia advice (Q.9).

N91- sounds good to me

Howard forums' members just can’t decide between the N91 and the N93. Dre180 wants to know which device has the best audio.

The N91 certainly takes the audio gold! It's 3.5mm jack and 8-band equalizer make mincemeat of the N93's more basic feature set. However, when it comes to video, the 3.2 Megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss lens on the N93 make it the king of the videocamera smartphones.

So.. it’s up to you! Mad about music? Then the N91 is undeniably the wisest choice. Alternatively, if you're an aspiring film maker then get yourself an N93.
